General Description
Body fur red-brown. Tail and rump with a white-cream patch. Narrow ring of pale fur around the eye. Antlers on males. Body up to 2.5 m, tail up to 15 cm.
Biology
Red Deer graze on bark and foliage from plants and also eat fungi. They form small groups (bunches) of same-sex individuals for most of the year, separating to find a number of mates in March-April.
Distribution
Introduced to southeast and southwest mainland Australia. Once widespread, they are now primarily restricted to populations in Victoria and Queensland.
