General Description
Body usually has three tails (cerci) at the tip of the abdomen, through in some species the central one may be reduced or lost. Eyes circular. Two pairs of wings. Short antennae. Up to 2 cm long.
Biology
Mayflies live for a few days, sometimes only hours. They can mate in mid-air, with the male using his front legs to grasp the flying female. They do not feed.
Distribution
Mainland Australia (except Western Australia) and Tasmania.
Habitat
Near still or slow-flowing water.
