General Description
Body thin with wings. Legs long and narrow. Body up to 2 cm long.
Biology
These flies are attracted to lights and can be found in large numbers on fly screens. The adult form of this group exists only to breed; they do not really feed, though may occasionally take nectar. They mostly live on their own body mass, loosing weight through their short life span.
Distribution
Worldwide. Mainland Australia and Tasmania.
Habitat
Still water lakes, ponds and puddles.
