General Description
Shell with two halves joined by a hinge. Oval shape with circular (concentric) ridges around the shell. Often brightly-coloured inside and out with shades of yellow, red and purple. Shell up to 3 cm across.
Biology
Little Basket Shells burrow in soft sediments at the bottom of lakes and rivers. They feed on organic matter filtered from the water.
Distribution
Mainland Australia.
Habitat
Sand areas in shallow streams and rivers. Widespread in Australia.
