General Description
Body colour dark purplish-brown. Worker body up to 1 cm long.
Biology
Meat Ants make a large mound nest, covered by small pebbles and cleared of vegetation. The worker ants cannot sting, but they can bite and secrete a defensive fluid from the end of their abdomen.
Distribution
Mainland Australia.
Habitat
Sandy or gravelly soils in urban areas, forests, woodlands, and heathlands.
