General Description
Body straight at the sides, dark brown to black. Legs narrow with spines. Larva: grey with dark brown-black head. Body up to 1 cm long.
Biology
Black-headed Pasture Cockchafers fly during January and February and are attracted to lights. Larvae live in vertical tunnels in the soil, emerging at night to feed on clover, ryegrass and animal dung. The life-cycle takes one year.
Distribution
South-eastern mainland Australia and Tasmania.
Habitat
Grassland, lawns and golf courses.
