General Description
Body grey with black stripes on the mid-body (thorax) and a chequered pattern on the abdomen. Body up to 2 cm long.
Biology
Some Flesh Flies are parasitic on grasshoppers or snails. Females lay live maggots (larvae) onto dead animal carcasses or dung. A large number of these flies inside a house usually indicates a dead animal in the roof space, wall cavity or under the floor.
Distribution
Mainland Australia and Tasmania.
Habitat
On plants, near dead animal carcasses or near dung.
