General Description
Head orange and rectangular with black, toothed jaws (mandibles). Body up to 2 cm long.
Biology
Dampwood Termites are a pest of forest trees and only rarely attack wood in buildings. Small colonies can occur behind rotting wood, such as sleepers in gardens. They can be controlled by destroying the nest and removing any source of moisture.
Distribution
South-western and eastern mainland Australia and Tasmania.
Habitat
Nests mainly in eucalypt trees, logs and decaying stumps.
