General Description
Trunk (column) orange with white stripes. Top mouth area orange. Column up to 2 cm wide.
Biology
Orange and White Stripe Anemones cast off thin threads (acontia) from small openings (cinclides) in the column and/or from the mouth as a defence mechanism. The threads contain stinging capsules (nematocysts), which can sting other animals.
Distribution
New Zealand and south-eastern Australia.
Habitat
Rocky areas, to depth of 1 m.
