General Description
Body and arms usually dark red-brown or chocolate brown, sometimes orange or purple. Arms with up to seven spines along the sides of each segment. Disc up to 2 cm wide, covered in minute granules, arms up to 7 cm long.
Biology
This species is able to move quickly across the sea floor when disturbed. It is thought that three undescribed species are included under this name, one purple-brown, one orange and one dark with a long white stripe on the ventral side of the arms.
Distribution
South-eastern and western Australian coasts.
Habitat
Under rocks on reefs and rocky shores, to depth of 45 m.
