General Description
Body yellow-brown with dark red spots. Carapace has two notches on the side behind the eye. Up to 5 cm wide (carapace).
Biology
Red-spotted Shore Crabs burrow in mud or crawl under rocks or timber around the high tide mark for shelter. They forage for food at night. This species looks very similar to two other species of shore crab in the same genus that live on more exposed coastal areas.
Distribution
South-eastern Australia.
Habitat
Under rocks on sheltered coasts or in burrows on mudflats, to depth of 10 m.
