General Description
Body yellow to white with a dark grey to black head and tentacles. Sometimes with indistinct stripes along each side. Up to 2 cm long.
Biology
Hedgehog Slugs are one of a few introduced molluscs species living in native bush areas. They are native to western Europe. Like all slugs, Hedgehog Slugs are hermaphrodites. They appear to reproduce mostly by self-feritilisation but can cross-breed with other individuals. They lay only one clutch of eggs a year and may not live more than a year.
Distribution
Europe, South Africa and New Zealand. South-eastern mainland Australia and Tasmania.
Habitat
Damp areas, under logs and leaf litter.
