Summary
Purple-breasted Cotingas are glossy blue and black birds with deep purple-maroon breasts. They are found in the lowland tropical and subtropical forests in parts of Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela. Though this species has a wide range, very little is known about it beyond where it is found.
The exact location this male specimen came from is unknown.
Despite some apparent decline in population numbers and vulnerability to destruction of its habitat, the Purple-breasted Cotinga is classified by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as being of Least Concern due to its large distribution.
