Summary
Koalas are large marsupials native to Australia. They live in eucalypt woodlands of the eastern mainland.
This specimen was collected in 2014 from the Otway Cape of Victoria as part of a health management program administered by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.
Since European settlement the Koala's range has contracted through habitat loss leading to their becoming extinct in South Australia. They have since been reintroduced. The conservation status of Koalas was upgraded from Least Concern to Vulnerable in 2016 as their populations are declining and are at threat from the impacts of climate change into the future.
