Rock Description
Previously called "Melaphyre" which is a very old name replacing trapporphyr and originally used for amygdaloidal rocks composed of plagioclase and augite but later used for Upper Palaeozoic rocks, usually basaltic. This specimen contains white plagioclase phenocrysts and green pyroxene phyenocrysts in a very fine grained brownish-grey matrix.
