Miles House, located at 200 The Esplanade, Brighton, epitomizes the glamorous architect-designed house of the 1960s. Designed by architectural firm Chancellor and Patrick, which had built its reputation on innovative house designs on the Mornington Peninsula in the 1950s, Miles House is a large and lavish composition of flat roofs, glass and slim grey bricks. It has generous car parking space, elevated living rooms to capture spectacular views over Port Phillip Bay and copious amounts of floor to ceiling windows.

Chancellor and Patrick were renowned in Melbourne for their creative interpretations of the organic architecture of the great American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and the structural clarity of the houses of Californian architect Richard Neutra. Chancellor and Patrick created some of the most popular architect-designed houses in 1960s Melbourne.
