This collection of original and digital photographs is the result of a research collaboration (2016-19) between Museums Victoria and Dr Dzavid Haveric, Adjunct Research Fellow at the Centre for Islamic Studies and Civilisation, and the Centre for Public and Contextual Theology at Charles Sturt University in New South Wales.

Dr Haveric has undertaken a sweeping research project about the history of Muslims and Muslim communities across Australia, from the earliest arrivals to more recent times. The project crosses place, time, cultures and countries of origin to demonstrate the diversity of people of Muslim faith and their experiences and their contributions to Australian society.

Dr Haveric has published two books as key outcomes of his research: 'Muslims Making Australia Home. Immigration and Community Building' (Melbourne University Publishing 2019) and 'History of Islam and Muslims in Australia' (Lambert Academic Publishing 2019).

The project has also resulted in the acquisition by the Museum of a collection of photographs relating to diverse Muslim families across Australia and detailed story narratives. This has provided a significant enhancement of the Museum's collections relating to Muslim communities in Australia.

For more Muslim-related items in the Museum's collections, use 'Muslims', 'Muslim immigration' and 'Muslim communities' as search terms.
