COM-3 was an educational technology journal launched in August 1977 by two teachers at Essendon Grammar School - Timothy Mowchanuk and Gregory Johnstone. The journal's name was a shorthand reference to Computer Community Communications. In August 1978, COM-3 became the official journal of the Computer Educational Group of Victoria (CEGV) which had formed in May 1978. Although the journal was based in Victoria, the editors worked hard to include material from all Australian States and Territories. COM-3 was the leading applied educational computing journal in Australia during the 1970s and 1980s.
The journal was published under the title COM-3 until the year 2000 when it was renamed the ICT in Education: Journal of ICT in Education Victoria. This journal was merged into The Journal of Digital Learning and Teaching Victoria in 2014.
COM-3 is held in the State Library of Victoria and National Library of Australia. It provides a rich primary source for exploring the history of educational computing in Victoria and Australia.
