Prince William Arthur Philip Louis was born on 21 June 1982 in London. He is heir apparent to the British throne. He began his education at Mrs Mynor's Nursery School, London, and later was enrolled at Wetherby School, also in London. He subsequently spent five years at Ludgrove School, then attended Eton College. After passing his A Levels, Prince William took a gap-year, undertaking military manoeuvres in Belize, working on a farm in the United Kingdom and helping in community projects in a remote area of Chile. He subsequently returned to Britain to study the history of art at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland.

Prince William is an enthusiastic sportsman and enjoys football, rugby, tennis, swimming and water polo, as well as being a skilled clay pigeon shooter. He has also acted in school plays, and enjoys reading and watching films.

Prince William's first public appearance was on a visit to Wales at a service at Llandaff Cathedral, aged 8.
