The library is one of 21 rooms in the dolls' house Pendle Hall. It was designed and decorated by Felicity Clemons over a forty year period, and each piece of furniture and fixture was handmade by her. She used books and magazines for inspiration, and to achieve a high level of accuracy in the design and execution of each item.
It is a large room on the first floor of the house, directly above the withdrawing room. It contains a small collection of books, and is where family members and guests could sit and read or write.
In the centre of the room is a round wooden table and three chairs, two with upholstered seats and one with an upholstered seat and back. On the table are several books and a newspaper.
On the left hand wall is a large table/desk with turned legs and a matching wooden seat with an upholstered seat and back. On the table is a book, a leather album and two candlesticks. Above the table is a large sash window with a pair of red curtains. Next to this, in the corner, is an open fireplace containing a metal grate and fire wood. Above the fireplace is a wooden mantelpiece, on which there are two ornaments and two candlesticks. In front of it is a wooden firescreen, an upholstered sofa, a small wooden side table, a turned wooden stand holding a candlestick, and a red woven rug.
On the back wall is a wooden glass fronted bookcase containing a large number of leather bound books. On the right hand wall is a large wooden chest of drawers on a wooden stand with turned legs, on top of which is a metal ornament. On the front right hand wall is a door to the door to the bathroom. Three framed painting hang on the wall.
The walls are decorated with square light wooden panelling. A four branched candelabra hangs from the ceiling. The floor is covered with intricately decorated parquetry. Along the front is a strip of multicoloured parquetry, signifying a separate hallway, on which sits a green and black painted stand holding a white male bust (a matching piece to the one outside the morning room.)
In the room are two men, one of which is standing and one is sitting down.
