Certificate issued to Bretislav Lukes by the International Refugee Organisation, 26 July 1949. The certificate states that Bretislav studied English and records the level he achieved in the Linguaphone course. Born 12 January 1922 in Stankou in Czechoslovakia Bretislav claims to have worked for the Germans during the war in Junkers aircraft factory. Following the war he migrated to Australia on the Goya in 1950 and was sent to Bonegilla. His compulsory employment was for Australian Iron and Steel at Port Kembla, possibly on the Snowy Hydro-electric Scheme.
