Summary

Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Volunteer's Medal 2006 (AD). Minted by the Royal Australian Mint, Canberra. Awarded to Mrs Thalia Raymond, for her work as a volunteer during the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

This is an example of the commemorative medal issued to all M2006 volunteers by the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Corporation, as part of the package to thank them for their work.

Physical Description

Case: Orange (uncertain whether vinyl or leather) Melbourne 2006 brand identity colour. Top of case bears M2006 logo in white. Base of case bears text 'Royal Australian Mint' at forward edge. The interior of the case has white satin lining on the lid. Gold text printed on the satin reads "Thank you for sharing in the moment," a variation on the slogan for the Games "United by the Moment." Medal: Antique bronze finish. Note: it was only possible to examine one face of the medal (assumed to be reverse face) because it is so tightly wedged into its case. Reverse: Centre, aligned vertically, is the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games logo. To the left hand side is a partial image of the athletic spirit sub-graphic for athletics, a running male figure. On the right is the athletic spirit subgraphic for gymnastics, a female figure.
