Summary
This two-dimensional model shows an early design for the Toy Duck, designed by Christina Smith. This design was incorporated into plans for the Opening Ceremony of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, but was nearly dropped because it too closely resembled the ducks drawn by cartoonist Michael Leunig. While Leunig's work inspired the duck as a symbol of imagination, permission to reference his work was not obtained until late in the creative process. This model was one of a number of models that were made from Smith's costume concept designs, including a version of the Stellar the Fantasy Duck-Woman, HT 12536.
