Summary

This is the reverse of the body of the first model of the Toy Duck made for the Opening Ceremony of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games. The model, like the final Toy Duck, was made by Al Martinez Studios, the contracted workshop of the Games Ceremonies team.

The first model of the Toy Duck from the Opening Ceremony of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games was a miniature, sent by the Workshop to the Director of the Ceremony, Andrew Walsh, in mid-2005. Museum staff were in the Ceremonies office on the day that the model arrived, and saw the excitement of the design staff, as they saw the first of their designs become a physical object. The development of the Toy Duck was a significant task for the workshop. The waddling motion and its 'cute' appearance were the realisation of the intentions of the creative staff. This reverse was collected from the workshop.
