Metal handbag frame from the Simpson's Glove Factory, Richmond, Victoria, Australia. Leather handbags were introduced as a new production line at Simpson's Gloves Pty Ltd in 1930, they eventually became the largest part of the business.
Physical Description
Handbag frame comprising two pieces of silver metal, of differing sizes, curved in a rectangular shape. The smaller fits underneath the larger. The pieces are joined at the bottom with a screw, like a hinge, allowing them to move, thus providing the opening of the bag. The clasp on the upper frame comprises two oval knobs with grooves around the circumference, with a hexagonal piece in between. The smaller frame also features a, less decorative, clasp. Some rust.
