Summary
Hand embroidered tray cloth created to commemorate the Centenary of Victoria in 1934. The embroidery features an image of the Exhibition Building (REB) within a wreath of flowers and ribbon, and is dated 1834 - 1934. It is edged in crocheted cream cotton. The tray cloth was made by the donor's mother, probably as part of her glory box. She lived in Box Hill in 1934.
A range of souvenirs were produced for the centenary of Victoria, the majority commemorating the theme of progress, and contrasting the site of the city with what the pioneers, or the Aboriginal people, first saw. This domestic souvenir suggests the importance of the city through its use of one of the most prominent buildings on the city's skyline, the Exhibition Building. It further suggests patriotism through the use of wattle.

Embroidered tray cloth on cream linen fabric, showing a design of the Exhibition Building within a wreath of flowers and ribbon, with the date 1834 - 1934. Edged in crocheted cream cotton. It has been embroidered in shades of red, blue, green, brown and pink.
