Summary
Inverted vertical surface-condensing quadruple-expansion four-cylinder reciprocating marine steam engine model. Purchased from James Struthers, Renfrew, Scotland, 5 March 1928. With surface condenser, Stephensons link motion and vacuum pump, also marine type thrust bearings on outer end of crankshaft. In 1991 it was mounted on metal stand with electric motor and chain-drive mechanism fitted to object when it was being prepared for an interactive display at Scienceworks.
