Summary

This badge, also known as a button, was produced in relation to the Prohibition Referendum, Victoria, Australia, circa 1925. It was issued by the Victorian Anti-Liquor League at 182 Collins Street, Melbourne. Prohibition was an issue in Australia throughout the 1920s, in part a result of societal problems following World War I. Other nations also faced the issue of how to control alcohol consumption. Alcohol was depicted as the enemy of a sedate home life, encouraged following the upheavals of World War I. Australia's Prohibition Laws were repealed in 1928.
