Summary
Artillery sling, which was worn by Robert McKeeman Oakley, an officer in the Victorian Artillery Garrison, from 1892-1901, and in the Australian Garrison Artillery from 1901. There are no identifying marks.
The artillery sling would have been attached to the undercarriage of a rifle/carbine, and worn over the shoulder.
Physical Description
Leather strap. Loop at one end with raised pin that fits snugly into a button hold. Attached loop at other end which buckles to the belt, enabling the sling to be lengthened or shortened.
