Part of a large photographic collection of glass plate and film negatives, photographic prints and photo albums, relating to the development of the electric power supply industry in Victoria, operated by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV) from 1919 to 1993 and various predecessor private and municipal power supply enterprises dating back to the late 1880s.
Description of Content
Interior of turbine hall at Yallourn Power Station, taken from an elevated view point looking southwards, circa 1938. Steam turbine generating sets are lined up one behind the other along the length of the room, under an overhead gantry crane, and to the left is an annex in which instrumental and auxiliary equipment is housed. At the far end are the six original Metropolitan-Vickers 12.5 MW turbo-alternator sets of Yallourn 'A' Station, installed between 1923-1928, and in the middle distance are three of the four Metropolitan-Vickers 25 MW turbo-alternator sets of Yallourn 'B' Station, installed between 1932-1938.
