Marking 100 years of the Yallourn Power Station.

Without fanfare or public ceremony, at midday on Sunday 15 June 1924, electricity from the State Electricity Commission's new Yallourn Power Station first reached Melbourne flowing over a 177 kilometre long high voltage transmission line.

The event marked the culmination of a five-year project to develop Victoria's first baseload power station in the Latrobe Valley. Over the decades since, the Yallourn coal mine and power stations have made a major contribution to the State's industrial, economic and social prosperity.
