Summary

In this image, new Mother Hope Macpherson Black attends to the daily needs of her baby daughter, Catherine.This slide forms part of a much larger collection of images from the life and career of Hope Macpherson Black. They document her famous research trips to Macquarie Island as part of the first team of women permitted to research in the Antarctic. Other images document her earlier expeditions around Australia and her wedding in 1965, which under the Marriage Bar at the time required her to resign her position at the peak of her career. Finally a number of images capture her latter career as a science teacher.

Description of Content

Baby dressed in white singlet and nappy sitting on white towel on table with lady bending over behind her providing support. Very similar to image MM15331 however this one shows baby looking straight ahead.
