Summary

Photograph of a young girl hopping on a hopscotch grid, drawn on a sealed school playground surface, with others watching. The location of the game is not known, although it is one of a group of photographs probably taken by American folklorist Dr Dorothy Howard while she was studying children's games and playlore in Australia under a Fulbright research grant,1954-1955. Her photographs and research have become part of the Australian Children's Folklore Collection at Museum Victoria - part of the UNESCO Australian Memory of the World Register.

All girls are wearing summer clothing, and have short hair. A large oak tree is in the background, where other children are standing and playing. A road and houses are beyond the school yard.
