Black and white photograph showing a group portrait of the Anzac military band, in about 1920, post World War I.
Stanley Fletcher is second from the right, standing in the third row from the front, holding a clarinet. Because he was a clarinet player he became part of the military band when he enlisted in the military, and he was also a stretcher bearer - according to his family, the two jobs seemed to go together. Stanley fought in Gallipoli and France, and was wounded at Pozieres and awarded a military medal for bravery under fire. His family thought that the band may have met at Dame Nellie Melba's house in Lilydale.
Description of Content
Group portrait of a military brass band in uniform, holding their instruments. There are about 40 men in the band. The first row are sitting down, while the others are all standing. In the centre of the first row a large drum is sitting on the floor in front of a man.
