View of chemical plant and shed. There is the line of a train track in front. This photograph shows a view of the Phenol plant of Monsanto Chemicals, Somerville Road, West Footscray, 1954. Phenol was an industrial chemical used at that plant to make aspirin and bakelite. This was where the photographer, David Meale worked. David was a trainee chemist. He would work at Monsanto during the day and go to Melbourne Technical College to study at night.
