Summary
Copy in two halves of a medal of Pierfrancesco de' Medici (the Elder). The original medal was made in about 1470. This Electrotype copy made circa 1881 by Robert Ready. The original medal was acquired by the British Museum and later exhibited in the King's Library in 1881. It is No. 35 in the catalogue of that exhibition. It is thought that this electrotype was produced in association with that exhibition and publication and acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria where it was displayed in the mid 1880s.
Pierfrancesco de' Medici the Elder (1430 - 19 July 1476) was an Italian banker and diplomat. He was the ambassidor of the Republic of Florence to the Pope in 1458 and to Mantua in 1463. The reverse legend is from Psalm 57 line 6 "quae non exaudiet vocem incantantium et venefici incantantis sapienter".
