Summary
Copy of a medal of Niccolo III d'Este, Marquis of Ferrara (obverse only). The original medal was made pre 1441 by Antonio del Pollajuolo or Amandio da Milano. This Electrotype copy made circa 1881 by Robert Ready. The original medal was acquired by the British Museum and was exhibited in the King's Library in 1881. It is No. 42 in the catalogue of that exhibition. It is thought that this electrotype was produced in association with that exhibition and publication and acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria where it was displayed in the late 1880s.
Niccolò III d'Este was Marquess of Ferrara from 1393, at age 10, until his death. He was also a condottiero.
