Summary
Copy of a medal of Gianello della Torre. The original medal by Jacopo Nizolla da Trezzo (sometimes attributed to Leone Leoni) circa 1560-1577. This Electrotype copy made circa 1881 by Robert Ready. The original medal, acquired by the British Museum from the collection of King George III (Reg. G3,IP.1033) , was exhibited in the King's Library in 1881 and is No. 101 in the catalogue of that exhibition. It is thought that this electrotype was produced in association with that exhibition and publication and acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria where it was displayed in the late 1880s.

The Fountain of Science (or Knowledge) consisting of a draped female statue standing facing in the centre of a reservoir, with a bowl on her head surmounted by two animals' heads from which issues water; around her a group of seven men and a boy approaching the fountain, one man holds a compass, another a rule, the figures around catch the falling water in vessels or scoop it up from the reservoir to drink; around above, VIRTVS; in exergue, NVNQ: DEFICIT
