Summary
Copy of a medal of Camillo Castiglione. The original medal, perhaps by Pastorino de'Pastorini of Siena was made in 1561. This Electrotype copy made circa 1881 Robert Ready. The original medal from the collection of George III (Reg: G3,IP.225) was exhibited in the King's Library of the British Museum in 1881 and is No. 133 in the catalogue of that exhibition. It is thought that this electrotype was produced in association with that exhibition and publication and acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria where it was displayed in the late 1880s. (Note: the original medal is cast lead, this copy has been copper plated and toned).
"one of the most distinguished noblemen at the court of Francesco di Gonzaga. Camillo was in the service of Charles V and took part in most of his Italian wars. He was also an author. " King's Library Catalogue, 1881, p.48
