Summary

Copy of a medal of Cardinal Tiberio Crispi. The original medal, by Pastorino de'Pastorini was made in about 1554. This Electrotype copy made circa 1881 by Robert Ready. The original medal from the collection of George III (Reg: G3,IP.292) was exhibited in the King's Library of the British Museum in 1881 and is No. 151 in the catalogue of that exhibition. It is thought that this electrotype as produced in association with that exhibition and publication and acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria where it was displayed in the late 1880s. (Note: the original medal is cast lead, this copy has been copper plated and toned).

Tiberio Crispi (1498-1566) was from a Roman family, a nephew of Pope Paul III. He was appointed governor of the Castle of St. Angelo. He was made a Cardinal on 19 Dec 1544 and papal legate of Perugia.
