Summary

Copy of a medal of Lelio Torelli (sometimes Torello). The original medal, by Pastorino de'Pastorini was made in 1555. This Electrotype copy made circa 1881 by Robert Ready. The original medal from the collection of George III (Reg: G3,IP.1065) was exhibited in the King's Library of the British Museum in 1881 and is No. 165 in the catalogue of that exhibition. It is thought that this electrotype as produced in association with that exhibition and publication and acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria where it was displayed in the late 1880s. (Note: the original medal is cast lead, this copy has been copper plated and toned).

Note: Thought generally accepted as the identification of the person on the portrait medal of 1555, the portrait is of a child, perhaps the son of this person?
