Summary
Copy of a medal of Bianca Cappello de' Medici, duchess of Tuscany. The original medal, by Pastorino Pastorini of Siena, was made in about 1572. This Electrotype copy made circa 1881 at the British Museum by Robert Ready. The original medal from the collection of George III (Reg: G3,TuscM.170) was exhibited in the King's Library of the British Museum in 1881 and is No. 232 in the catalogue of that exhibition. It is thought that this electrotype was produced in association with that exhibition and publication and acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria where it was displayed in the late 1880s. (Note: the original medal is cast lead, this copy has been copper plated and toned).
Biancha was the grand duchess of Tuscany from 1578. She was the second wife of Francesco de'Medici.
