Summary
Copy of a medal bearing a portrait of Cardinal Pier Barbò of San Marco (later Pope Paul II). The original medal, by an unknown artist from the 'Roman School', was made in 1455. This two piece electrotype copy was made circa 1881 by Robert Ready. It is thought that this electrotype was produced in association with an exhibition of medals in the King's Library in 1881 and was acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria where it was displayed probably in the late 1880s.This two piece electrotype is copper plated and toned. The original was a cast bronze two sided medal in the British Museum collection (perhaps Reg. 1906,1103.969).
