Summary
Silk ribbon, worn as an admission pass to the opening of Como Park in Toorak on Wednesday 24 October 1934. The park was officially opened by the governor, Lord Huntingfield, in front of a crowd of 8,000 people, including 6,000 children who after their picnic lunch participated in a sports competition on the newly constructed oval.
The park, which could accommodate 80,000 spectators, was the finishing point of the Centenary Thousand cycling race just three days later. The race was one of the many events held to mark the Centenary of Melbourne and Victoria in 1934-35.
