Orange plastic JVC Videosphere television, model 3240AUL. The model was advertised in September 1974 as 'new', boasting that 'This super-convenient, ultra-modern TV will go everywhere ... from the lounge to the lake - the car to the caravan. This high performance 9" television runs on 240v AC or 12v DC. New looks and a new flexibility from JVC. David Jones' Anniversary price $175'. (Canberra Times, 16 Sep 1974, p.34s)

Used as a prop in the 'House Secrets' exhibition at Scienceworks, 6 March 2006 to 14 July 2013. Most of the props for the exhibition were sourced from opportunity shops in 2002 and 2003 by curator Andi Horvarth and other Museum Victoria staff. 'House Secrets' aimed to 'Explore the science behind all the familiar things in our homes', presenting 'all sorts of wonderful things we might find around the home, from the food we eat, to the appliances we use, to the animals we share our living space with.' The exhibition was 'highly interactive'.

Physical Description

Orange plastic television comprising round receiver/display and square base. Television sits in base, unattached, allowing it to be used on any angle. Screen is covered with curved black plastic, with flat glass screen visible behind. Silver channel knob in recess at top, and silver chain for carrying. Telescoping aerial. Extensive air venting on back surface. Black power cord with three-pin plug.
