World War I sympathy card, sent 1916-1918.
The card may relate to the deaths of either William Nairn or his cousin Alexander Nairn, both of whom were killed in World War I. Alexander was killed first, in Egypt in December 1916. William was killed in France in July 1918. The card is addressed to 'Mrs Nairn and Family', and is signed by Katie Butler.
Physical Description
Card comprising heavy white paper, folded in half to form four leaves. Front has black border around, flags of Australia (blue ensign) and Great Britain and words 'COME UNTO ME, AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST.'. Text on both inside pages, largely printed, with line for personal inscription, completed in hand-writing. The back cover the the card is blank. Two distinct patches of discolouration along top edge of card.
