Black and white photograph featuring operations in the Film Spooling Department at the Kodak Australasia factory, Abbotsford, circa 1940s. This photograph was originally held loosely in a scrapbook with other photographs that relate to the Kodak factories in Abbotsford and Coburg.

Kodak manufactured and distributed a wide range of photographic products to Australasia, such as film, paper, chemicals, cameras and miscellaneous equipment. Its client base included amateur and professional photographers, as well as specialist medical and graphic art professionals who used photography, x-ray and other imaging techniques.

This photograph is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005, when the Melbourne manufacturing plant at Coburg closed down.

Description of Content

Interior view of the Kodak factory showing the Film Spooling Department. Running down the length of the room, on the outer walls, are female workers using film spooling machines, next to each of them are baskets of film. Running down the middle of the room is a conveyor belt holding boxes of film cartridges. Four women sit at the belt sorting. A male worker pushes a trolley down one of the aisles.
