Summary

Set of Negative Vignette's belonging to Vincenzo Candela, an Italian migrant who came to Australia in 1920 with his wife Emanuela and son Angelo. Vincenzo had been a photographer in his hometown of Viggiano, Italy, where he specialised in portraiture, landscapes and village life. Vincenzo continued to use his photographic equipment in Australia, more as a hobby than a trade, taking photos of family members and friends in his home, with impromptu backdrops such as a rug or a sheet.

Description of Content

Set of eight negative vignettes. Four of the vignettes feature oval shapes in various positions. The other four are: A man (headless) flying a turkey in a wooden frame, above a town A man and women (both headless) in a hot air balloon, throwing various food products and household items out of the balloon. A man (headless) holding onto a kite, in the shape of a pig. The kite is being flown by his friend and there are books, wine glasses etc falling off the kite back to earth. A person (headless) in shorts with long socks, sitting on a board with wheels. There are wings attached to the person's back.
