Summary

Notice of Hostel Conditions and Rules issued by Commonwealth Hostels Limited to the Booth Family, in 1956. It was given to the Booth family during their stay at Brooklyn Hostel and it sets out the various tariffs, conditions and rules associated with Migrant Hostel accommodation. The Booth family, Ronald, Joan and their two children Ronald and Martin, migrated to Australia in 1956 under the assisted passage scheme. They left London on 18 May aboard the Strathaird and arrived in Australia in June. When they arrived in Melbourne they were taken to the migrant centre at the Royal Exhibition Building for processing and were then sent to the Brooklyn Hostel. They found Australia to be very different to how it was described in all the promotional literature they had been given in England, however they were made to feel very welcome.
