Summary

Green velveteen jacket, homemade in 1936, presumably by Mrs Violet Morgan. It was made to be worn with an ivory-coloured evening dress (SH900650) to a Glenhuntly Primary School Ball. Mrs Morgan was a trained dressmaker who had been married the previous year.

Physical Description

Pea-green velveteen thigh-length evening jacket. The sleeves are long and gathered at the wrist with a piped edge with press stud fastening. Jacket has darts on either shoulder to the bust and is slightly flared. It has a narrow stand-up collar and no fastenings in front. Jacket is lined with a taffeta- like material (probably rayon) which is cream-coloured except for the lower part of the sleeve where green has been used. There is also an invisible lining of flannel for extra warmth. The green colour of the jacket has faded inconsistently.
